Laste vaktsineerimine

Tervishoiutöötajatel on väga oluline roll vaktsineerimise elluviimisel.

For those behind on the vaccination programme

Some children and young people have not received the vaccines prescribed in the national immunisation schedule in due time, or have received only a few injections. In the case of deviations from the vaccination programme, consult your family physician and start or continue vaccination.

If a course of vaccinations has not been completed, it is worth remembering that even the first immunization injection put the immune system to work. This shapes an immunological memory that may weaken, but does not disappear. Each subsequent vaccination injection helps to recover the immunological memory and improve the body's natural defence capability. Therefore, it is not necessary, for those behind on the immunization programme, to start from the very beginning again or to administer extra doses; instead, they should just continue from where the vaccination course was interrupted.

In case of children with an unknown history of vaccination (for example, refugees), vaccination should be started in accordance to the application guide of the Estonian immunisation schedule.

It is never too late to continue vaccination or take the first step. Thanks to vaccinations, a number of dangerous infectious diseases have been eliminated in Estonia. However, this invisible shield will remain in force only until the level of vaccinated people remains sufficiently high.
